Why should I consent to received text messages and emails from The Barcellos Family Practice?

Not only is it a quick and low-cost way for the NHS to contact patients, it saves a patients time waiting on the phone to get through to the Practice or having to visit the surgery.

Your patient record is held securely and confidentially on the electronic system at your GP practice. If you require treatment in another NHS healthcare setting such as an Emergency Department or Minor Injury Unit, those treating you would be better able to give you appropriate care if some of the information from the GP practice were available to them.  This information is shared electronically via the Summary Care Record (SCR), used nationally across England.

This Practice supports SCR however, as a patient you may choose to opt out if you wish. If you do NOT want an SCR please download, print and complete the SCR Opt Out form by following this link>> and hand it in to the Practice.

The Data Protection Act 2018 and the ethical codes of conduct of all health care professionals require that medical data be treated with great respect for confidentiality.  We take data protection seriously and work very hard to keep your personal information secure and safe. However, we also understand that sometimes you want someone else (a “third party”) to have access to your medical records and personal data we hold.   Your specific consent is required before the The Barcellos Family Practice can release medical or personal information which we hold about you to any third party including people speaking or acting on your behalf. This is an important part of keeping your personal data safe.
